How to Hang Your Multi-Panel Canvas Wall Art

You've chosen your print. Now let's get it on the wall where it belongs. Hanging a multi-panel canvas is easier than it looks — and when done right, the result is a stunning, gallery-worthy display that looks like it was installed by a professional. Follow this step-by-step guide and you'll have it up in no time.

What You'll Need

• Your eCanvas King canvas panels (all hardware included)
• A level (laser level preferred, bubble level works great too)
• A pencil
• A tape measure
• A hammer
• Optional: painter's tape (helpful for marking panel positions before nailing)

Before You Start: Plan Your Layout

Take a few minutes to plan before you pick up the hammer. It saves time and avoids unnecessary holes in your wall.

• Find your center point. Measure the width of your wall or the furniture below (sofa, bed, fireplace) and mark the center with a light pencil mark.
• Determine your hanging height. The visual center of your canvas should sit approximately 57"–60" from the floor — standard gallery height. If hanging above furniture, aim for 6"–8" above the top of the piece.
• Dry-fit on the floor first. Lay all panels out on the floor in their final arrangement before touching the wall. This lets you confirm spacing and visualize the finished look.

Step-by-Step Installation

📌 Step 1 — Mark Your Center Point

Using your tape measure and pencil, mark the center of your display area on the wall at your desired height. This is your anchor point for the entire installation.

📌 Step 2 — Hang the Center Panel First

This is the most important step. Hang the center panel first, centered exactly on your pencil mark. Use your level to confirm it's perfectly straight before moving on. The center panel sets the baseline for everything else — if it's off, the whole display will be off.

📌 Step 3 — Work Outward, One Panel at a Time

Once the center panel is secure and level, move to the panels immediately on either side. Measure your gap (we recommend 1"–2" between panels for a clean look) and hang each panel, checking with your level as you go. Continue working outward symmetrically — left panel, right panel, left panel, right panel — until all panels are hung.

📌 Step 4 — Check Alignment Across All Panels

Step back and look at the full display. Use your level across the tops of the panels to confirm they're all aligned. For Diamond and Staggered layouts, check that the height steps are consistent and symmetrical on both sides.

📌 Step 5 — Make Final Adjustments

Minor adjustments are normal. Nudge any panel that needs it, re-check with the level, and you're done. Stand back and enjoy your wall.

Layout-Specific Tips

5-Panel Level Layout

All five panels hang at the same height. After centering the middle panel, use a long level or a straight piece of tape across the wall to keep all hanging points at exactly the same height as you work outward.

5-Panel Diamond Layout

The center panel is the tallest and hangs highest. Work outward to the two mid panels (slightly lower), then the two outer panels (lowest). Mark all five hanging points with pencil before driving any nails — this lets you visualize the diamond shape and adjust before committing.

5-Panel Staggered Layout

Panels alternate in a cascading staircase pattern. Start with the center panel, then alternate left-high, right-low (or vice versa) as you work outward. Measure each step carefully to keep the staircase consistent on both sides.

3-Panel Layout

Same principle — center panel first, then left and right. With only three panels, this goes quickly. Keep your gaps even and use a level across all three tops before finalizing.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Starting from one end. Always start from the center. Starting from a side panel almost always results in a display that drifts off-center.
• Skipping the level. Even a 1° tilt is visible across five panels. Always check with a level.
• Uneven gaps. Inconsistent spacing between panels looks sloppy. Measure each gap before nailing.
• Hanging too high. A common mistake — resist the urge to go higher than 60" center height. Art hung too high feels disconnected from the room.
