Canvas Wall Art Care & Maintenance Guide

Your canvas print is built to last — but like any piece of art, a little care goes a long way. Follow these simple tips to keep your canvas looking as vivid and stunning as the day it arrived.

Everyday Care

• Dust regularly. Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a clean feather duster to gently remove dust from the surface. Dust from the top down in light, sweeping motions.
• Avoid touching the print surface. Natural oils from your fingers can leave marks over time. Handle your canvas by the frame or edges whenever possible.
• Keep it dry. Canvas and moisture don’t mix. Avoid hanging your canvas in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or anywhere with high humidity unless it’s well-ventilated.

Cleaning Your Canvas

Occasional light cleaning is all your canvas needs. Here’s how to do it safely:

1. Start dry. Always try a dry microfiber cloth first. Gently wipe the surface in small circular motions to lift dust and light smudges.
2. For stubborn spots, lightly dampen a clean cloth with plain water (not soaking wet — just barely moist). Dab — don’t rub — the affected area.
3. Let it air dry completely before hanging it back up or touching the surface again.

⚠️ What to avoid:

• Harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or solvents — these will damage the ink and canvas fibers.
• Abrasive cloths, paper towels, or scrubbing pads.
• Spraying water or cleaner directly onto the canvas.
• Steam cleaners or pressure washing (yes, it happens!).

Protecting Your Canvas from Fading

Our canvases use high-quality, fade-resistant inks — but prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will eventually affect any print. Here’s how to protect your investment:

• Avoid direct sunlight. Don’t hang your canvas directly in front of a window where it will receive hours of direct UV exposure daily. Indirect natural light is perfectly fine.
• Use UV-filtering window treatments. If your room gets a lot of sun, UV-blocking blinds or curtains will protect both your canvas and your furniture.
• Keep away from heat sources. Avoid hanging canvas directly above fireplaces, radiators, or heating vents. Prolonged heat can cause the canvas to warp or the ink to crack over time.

Humidity & Temperature

Canvas is a natural material and responds to its environment. For best results:

• Keep your canvas in a room with moderate, consistent humidity (40–60% relative humidity is ideal).
• Avoid extreme temperature swings — garages, attics, and unheated storage spaces are not ideal long-term homes for canvas art.
• If you live in a very dry climate, a room humidifier can help prevent the canvas from becoming brittle over time.

Storing Your Canvas

If you ever need to store your canvas temporarily:

• Store it upright, never flat — stacking weight on top of a canvas can warp the frame or crack the print.
• Wrap it loosely in a soft cloth or acid-free paper. Avoid plastic wrap, which can trap moisture.
• Store in a cool, dry, climate-controlled space away from direct light.

Fixing a Loose or Warped Canvas

Over time, canvas can occasionally loosen slightly from its stretcher bars — especially in environments with fluctuating humidity. If you notice slight sagging or warping:

• Check the back of the canvas for wooden keys (small wedges) in the corners of the stretcher frame. Gently tapping these inward with a rubber mallet will re-tension the canvas.
• For minor warping, placing the canvas face-down on a flat surface in a warm room for a few hours can help it relax back into shape.
